S YOUSUF ALI
Born 1939 in Goa, Shaikh Yousuf Ali is the best known
among Contemporary Artists of India. At the age of 45, Yousuf Ali's paintings gained international acceptance and appreciation. His style of unrestrained free strokes, cuts and segmentation of form arrested the viewer's attention and stole the respect one would hold in reserve for a grandmaster. He had an uncanny command over anatomy in all his gay abandon and distortion. His works displayed voluptuous beauty!
He was qualified with Diploma in Painting from Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai in 1964. Later he served as a Designer in Advertising for several years in Mumbai and further as an Art Director of a leading Advertising Agency. He received the Height of Glory Award as a Designer in 1977 and the 19th National Award for Excellence in Printing and Designing of Books. He had held more than 11 Solo Shows in The Taj Art Gallery, Mumbai and also several shows in UAE including the one at Al Falaj Hotel, Oman in 1985. He expired in the year 1997 leaving behind the wonderful memories through his works of Art.
